Australian musician Jenna Cave is launching her brand new single, ‘42 Again’, and you’re invited. The gifted composer, vocalist, and saxophonist is slated to perform the song on Wednesday 26 August at one of Sydney’s newest and most atmospheric music venues, ‘Eight O’Clock Sharp‘, a volunteer-run acoustic jazz venue set in an old Newtown Church.

“The original song was inspired by a dream I had about my father in the week that he died from cancer,” Cave said. “He re-appeared in my dream young and healthy again, reminiscent of a time when I was a little girl and I could depend on him for care and support.

“Sadly, I felt that our roles were reversed by the time I was an adolescent as he suffered from episodes of bipolar disorder. Ultimately, I interpreted the dream as a message of hope and reassurance, that in his death my father and I could return to a simpler, happier time in our relationship.”

Jenna Cave is known for her visceral and thought-provoking compositions, with The Weekend Australian describing her work as “inspiring music which deeply touches the heart”. In recent years, Cave has found herself using songwriting as a tool to explore and express difficult emotional experiences.

As well as featuring her new single, this latest performance will see Cave and her all-star quartet lineup perform a number of recent songs traversing themes of grief, loss, self-compassion, healing, love, heartbreak, and motherhood. For fans of jazz, community, and emotional exploration alike, this event is not to be missed.

The concert will take place on Wednesday August 26 at 280A King Street, Mission Church Hall, Newtown, just opposite Dendy. The show will go for approximately two hours, kicking off at 8pm, sharp. Tickets can be purchased here.
