A woman was allegedly stabbed multiple times with a paint scraper in Sydney’s east, before locals chased down the attacker and made a citizen’s arrest.

Emergency services were called to Randwick earlier this week. Police attended and found the 47-year-old woman with stab wounds to her head and upper body.

The woman was reportedly in an argument with a 21-year-old man, who was known to her, before he attacked her with the scraper.

She received about 15 lacerations and had to undergo surgery.

She was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and is in a serious but stable condition.

A witness later described seeing three men chase the offender down the road to a grocery store, where they tackled him and waited until police arrived.

The man was charged with the domestic violence offence wounding to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail after appearing in Waverley Local Court on Thursday.

His legal representative said he had not been formally diagnosed with a mental health condition, but that would form part of his defence.
