Transit Inc – Transit Inc

Transit Inc – Transit Inc

Transit Inc (self-titled) – Transit Inc

by Aidan Roberts

This debut album from local Sydney indie rockers Transit Inc launches itself with promise enough; big guitars, crisp drums, very modern textures and a little bit of psychedelia. The gate-crashing opener So Fast clips along at a fair pace. From there we move through some moodier, almost dance-floor anthems like Start Up and Dreamer, and fairly quickly I was lost. Aside from the alarmingly clinical aesthetic that these guys have going on, there is a deeply disturbing reliance on that horrid cheap vocoder effect that was so famously trendied by Cher’s producers on you-know-what-song. This swirling, robotic treatment makes me feel that this band have something to hide behind. Their lyrics and music are vivacious and punchy enough, but there is a distinct lack of soul to this material, something all too common in the sea of semi-commercial rock bands in this country. There are redeeming moments, like the memorably melodic Lonely Stages, but on the whole this record feels like a paper boat in the Atlantic ocean.
