THE WORLD’S END

The World’s End follows a group of friends (Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan) who are convinced by their fearless leader Gary (Simon Pegg) to return to their quaint English hometown and recreate the epic pub crawl they couldn’t finish 20 years earlier.

The town has changed though and now the whole world is relying on Gary and his mates to make it to the final pub.

The World’s End is utterly implausible and completely entertaining. Audiences have seen the basic concept before (a small-town-consipiracy-with-a-twist-comedy) – a style that has had continued success for Simon Pegg/Edgar Wright collaborations.

Unfortunately the film becomes a little self-indulgent towards the end, a trait that normally adds humour, but the story continues past the should-be climactic point and descends into eye-rolling craziness.

Thankfully it is impossible to discriminate between the flawless casting – from the main gang to supporting roles by Pierce Brosnan, Bill Nighy and David Bradley (Harry Potter series). (LL)
