THE BOAT THAT ROCKED

THE BOAT THAT ROCKED

A nostalgic trip back to the swinging sixties courtesy of Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Notting Hill), all aboard the hedonistic boat of bliss A.K.A Radio Rock. This fictional, pirate station broadcasts the best rock n’ roll music of the day from offshore because the BBC (the sole official English radio station) played only two hours of this popular music a week. Extremely colourful and eccentric characters (led by an all-star cast including Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour-Hoffman and Rhys Ifans) deliver the adlibs, jokes and flawless soundtrack on air, in this feel good comedy and love letter to pop/rock music. A slow burner of a film, its aforementioned factors redeem the proceedings making it fun viewing and the equivalent of taking part in one long party you don’t want to end.
