Two recent incidents of assault against taxi drivers have occurred in Sydney’s inner city and inner west, with NSW police currently appealing for information on an attack against a driver in the CBD. At around 11pm on June 6, a taxi driver collected two passengers and drove a short distance, before an argument broke out resulting in the driver being physically assaulted.
The 53-year-old driver was taken to hospital and treated for head and facial wounds, with NSW police reporting that he is in stable condition. The passengers of the taxi fled the scene and were last spotted on Castlereagh street.

This most recent assault occurred the same day a Belfield man has been charged for allegedly assaulting two taxi drivers in Balmain last month. On May 28, the man allegedly got involved in an altercation on Mullens Street, with one driver who was dropping him off, when another taxi driver intervened.
The 29-year-old driver attempted to separate the altercation, and was allegedly also physically assaulted by the man. Both drivers suffered facial injuries in the attack, with the 29-year-old driver being taken to hospital to treat a would above his eye.
