Surry Hills Japanese Bar Goros To Celebrate Reopening With Free Launch Party

Goros, Surry Hills’ staple Japanese drinking house, is celebrating its reopening with a free launch party. Headlined by DJs Sampology and Cazeaux O.S.L.O., the party is set to take over the iconic 84/86 Mary St venue on Thursday 15 October, with doors opening at 5pm. The official advice is get there early, or risk missing out.

It comes after the longtime Surry Hills favourite reopened on Friday 25 September after getting a make-over. Now, the iconic Solotel venue boasts a full refit featuring warm pine, low lighting, cosy booths; and an in-house record collection framing a bespoke vinyl DJ booth at the heart of the room. 

“Goros is the first venue we’ve renovated since reshaping Solotel earlier this year, and it reflects the direction we’re taking as a group,” said Elliot Solomon, CEO of Solotel. “We want every venue to have its own unique character, a commitment to craft and excellent experiences, and warmth in the way we welcome and look after our guests.” 

At Goros, Some Things Should Never Change

As for what hasn’t changed, there’s Goros’ Japanese-accented cocktails; yakitori straight off the charcoal with chicken thigh, wagyu beef, and glazed salmon options; shareplates of tempura corn with miso mayo, house-made gyoza, and fresh sashimi; and plenty of Goro-Kans to choose from (be it a Yuzu Spritz, Chu-Hai, and Whisky Highball, all canned in house).

And of course, it wouldn’t be Goros without karaoke. The four private rooms have had a refresh, with food and drinks delivered straight to the door and thousands of songs on hand for anyone who ends up behind the mic before the night’s through.

“We wanted to give people more reasons to make Goros part of their week and the cultural fabric of Surry Hills,” said Solomon, “from a cocktail after work to dinner with friends and a night of karaoke and dancing. The records and the people playing them are central to this next chapter, alongside the food, cocktails and sense of fun that people have always loved about Goros.”
