Cameron MacLean, 28, Becomes The Youngest Lord Mayor In Parramatta’s History

Cameron MacLean wants to prioritise infrastructure, jobs and strengthening community trust over his two-year term, following the 28-year-old Epping Ward councillor’s election as Parramatta’s youngest ever Lord Mayor on Monday night.

MacLean said his focus would be on securing the infrastructure, services and investment needed to support the city’s growing population, as Parramatta “evolves into a globally connected city of opportunity, culture and world-class experiences”.

Planning For Parramatta’s Growth

One of MacLean’s major focuses will be ensuring Parramatta’s rapid growth keeps pace with available jobs and infrastructure.

Parramatta 2050, Council’s long-term plan for the city, has a set target of 150,000 additional jobs, which MacLean said will help more people work closer to home while driving economic growth.

He said he would push for the government funding and private investment needed to support the city’s expansion while maintaining the quality of life of existing residents.

Council has already planned 73,000 new homes over the next 20 years, with 24,500 dwellings already in the development pipeline.

MacLean’s term will begin with Council’s 2026–27 Budget allocating $164.2 million to city-shaping projects, putting infrastructure and development at the centre of his new role.

Restoring Trust In Council

Alongside Parramatta’s physical growth, MacLean has identified Council’s internal governance as another priority.

“I am committed to strengthening transparency, accountability and community trust,” he said.

“A key priority is delivering our ICAC Recovery Plan and ensuring Council decisions are made openly, responsibly and in the best interests of our residents.”

The commitment comes as Council continues to deal with the fallout from the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption’s Operation Navarra investigation into allegations involving former senior Council staff.

The investigation includes allegations of improper recruitment practices, workplace surveillance and the misuse of official powers. The allegations have not been established as findings of corrupt conduct.

MacLean will serve as Lord Mayor until September 2028, working alongside Councillor Kellie Darley who was elected Deputy Lord Mayor and will hold the position until September 2027.
