Sunshine On Leith

Sunshine On Leith is a warm, upbeat musical about family, friendship and love. The film centres on two mates, Davy (George MacKay) and Ally (Kevin Guthrie), as they adjust to home life after a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Set in picturesque Leith and greater Edinburgh, Scotland, director Dexter Fletcher captures the feel-good emotions of romances old and new.

Adapted from the stage musical with the same name, Sunshine On Leith features songs by Scottish band The Proclaimers. Tracks like I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) feature in the film in a way that fits naturally with the plotline.

Although the film misses the mark with exploring the darker side of returning home from war, Sunshine On Leith is a happy film with strong performances, especially from Peter Mullan as Rab. (SM)
