Multi-award winning performer and star of the Australian stage, Philip Quast, will share stories of his life and work live on stage in a series of shows at Ensemble Theatre.

Philip Quast: The Road I Took is a solo show presented by Quast himself. It is a memoir told in story and song – with piano accompaniment by Anne-Maree McDonald – and includes anecdotes from behind the curtain, personal musings, and meaningful events that informed his career.

“It’s going to be a little different to the cabaret shows I’ve done before. No show will be the same. It’s going to be partly improvised. I’ll be telling stories about my life…It will have the unexpected. It might even surprise me… and I’ll be led by [the audience],” says Quast.

Born in Tamworth in 1957, Quast was one of three children raised on his parent’s farm. He studied at the National Institute for Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, graduating in 1979. His stage career began with a series of plays and musicals in South Australia, and then gigs in Melbourne and Sydney.

Like many Australian performers who went on to stardom, Quast was a co-host on iconic children’s show, Play School, beginning in 1981 then continuing sporadically until 1996.

Quast’s big break came when he landed the role of Javert in the 1987 Australian production of Les Misérables. His critically acclaimed performance led to his taking the role to London’s West End. From there his successes have been many and ever more luminous.

Philip Quast: The Road I Took is on for six performances only.
