Moulin Rouge! The Musical Casts Musical Theatre Giants
Leading the announcement was Ben Hall, a former Neighbours star and one of Australian musical theatre’s most in-demand leading men. The Perth-born actor, also noted for his appearances in the Devils Playground (2015) and Warnie (2023), will step into the deliciously villainous role of The Duke of Monroth.
Hall’s Theatre credits include Les Misérables, Pretty Woman, Elvis: A Musical Revolution, and the upcoming Whispering Jack: The John Farnham Musical.
Joining Hall on the stage will be Tim Omaji, better known as the four-time platinum recording artist Timomatic and former Australia’s Got Talent judge. The Nigerian-Australian singer and dancer, most famous for his hit single “Set It Off”, will reprise his acclaimed performance as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec from the original Australian production.
Omaji’s theatre credits include TINA – The Tina Turner Musical, RENT, Pretty Woman and In The Heights, with screen credits including Clickbait and La Brea.
The Rising Stars Of Moulin Rouge
Beside Hall and Omaji, two rising Australian performers are slated to take to the stage: Tyler Chapman will make his professional musical theatre debut as fiery Argentinian bohemian Santiago, while the dynamic Thalia Smith is stepping into the spotlight as Nini, a major career milestone following standout appearances in some of the country’s biggest musicals, including SIX the Musical, CATS, Beauty and the Beast and Frozen.
“Moulin Rouge! The Musical demands an extraordinary range of performance skills,” said Producer Carmen Pavlovic, “and Ben, Tim, Tyler, and Thalia are outstanding performers who each bring something uniquely special to these iconic roles. Together, they capture the spirit and passion at the heart of this story.
“As we build this new Australian company, we’re assembling a cast that will honour everything audiences love about this spectacular production while bringing fresh energy and excitement to the stage for Sydney in 2027.”
Further casting announcements, including the celebrated roles of Satine, Christian, and Harold Zidler, will be revealed in the coming months. Sydney tickets are on sale now through to 2 May at moulinrougemusical.com.au.
