Emmy-Winning Aussie Actor Guy Pearce Cheekily Confirms Priscilla Sequel For 2028

ABC reporter James Longman has shared a video to Facebook in which he interviews Guy Pearce of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) fame. Attending the premiere of Pearce’s new movie, The Dog Stars, Longman kicked off the cheeky exchange by revealing Priscilla had been his gay awakening. In turn, Pearce had some of his own insights to share, some pertaining to the Aussie comedy hit’s long-anticipated sequel.

“Well, the sequel,” Pearce began his reply, heartily slinging his arm around Longman’s shoulder, “which is gonna be— right, what are we now… 2026? We’ll probably shoot it 27, it’ll come out 28.”

Longman proceeded to playfully ask the star if he was planning on getting “back into the same shape” he had been in during the shooting of the last Priscilla movie.

“How dare you!” Pearce replied, grinning, “I’m very much in the same shape.”

Pearce went on to share an amusing correspondence he’d had with Madame Tussauds pertaining to this very same question.

“In 2011, Madame Tussauds came to me and they said: ‘We want to do a wax, you know, thing of you. Here’s the photo we want to redo. Uh, you’re obviously in the same shape.’ And I went:  ‘Just hang on a second. Hang on a second. The waist was a little thinner.’ And they’re like: ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everyone wants bigger boobs and a thinner waist.’ And I’m like: ‘Yeah but still.’”

Pearce concluded his anecdote by declaring directly to the camera, “I’ll be in the same shape”. 

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Sequel: What We Know

As for the sequel, Director Stephan Eliot declared in April 2024 that Priscilla’s next chapter was underway, with Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving, and Guy Pearce all slated to reprise their roles as Bernadette, Anthony “Tick” Belrose (Mitzi Del Bra), and Adam Whitely (Felicia Jollygoodfellow) respectively.

Though Terence Stamp passed away in 2025, it was revealed that the beloved actor had quietly filmed parts of the long-awaited Priscilla sequel beforehand. Fittingly, the sequel is set to examine what it’s like to age as a gay or trans person, a subject the Eliot feels has yet to be properly explored.

The production team is now said to be carefully considering how to include the footage in a way that feels respectful — and ensures that Bernadette, Stamp’s unforgettable character, remains part of the new chapter.
