City Of Sydney Residents Are Invited To A Free Clothes Swap In Ultimo This Saturday

The City of Sydney and The Clothing Exchange are partnering to deliver a free eco-friendly clothes swap in Ultimo this weekend. The event, to be held at 11am at Ultimo Community Centre on Saturday 29 August, invites City of Sydney residents to bring along their much-loved but less-than-needed garments for a chance to swap them for a new favourite.

Attendees are required to individually reserve a spot in advance, though coming with friends is still encouraged. Registered attendees are asked to arrive at 40 William Henry Street (enter via Bulwara Road) at 11am promptly. At this point, a 55 minute check-in period will commence, though swappers will likely have opportunities to grab coffee and socialise with other attendees during this time. The official swap will commence at 12pm, which will be facilitated by a friendly team that can answer all attendee questions on the day.

What Can I Bring?

Each attendee can bring up to 5 items of seasonally appropriate clothing (including belts, bags, shoes, ties, and other wearable accessories) for any size/age/gender, provided each garment is in excellent condition. Excellent condition means the clothing is clean, pressed, and free from rips, holes, stains, or major faults. The event’s official advice is to only bring items you would proudly give to a friend, as each item will be checked before being officially entered in the swap.

Attendees should also note that jewellery, wigs, underwear, socks, swimwear, and sportswear/activewear are illegible for entry into the swap.

Who Is Eligible To Participate In The Clothes Swap?

Only residents of the City of Sydney local government area, which encompasses 33 suburbs, are eligible to participate. Since the council area spans as far north as The Rocks, Dawes Point, and Potts Point; as far east as Centennial Park; as far south as Rosebery and St Peters; and as far west as Annandale and Newtown, residents who are unsure of their suburb’s government area are encouraged to consult the official map, or enter their address into the City of Sydney parking eligibility checker.
