“Our Biggest Yet”: The Hayes Theatre Co Drops Iconic 2027 Season

The Hayes Theatre Co has just dropped its 2027 Season, and Artistic Directors, Richard Carroll and Victoria Falconer say that it will be their biggest yet.

In their final years as the Artistic Directors, Carroll and Falconer are bringing back the 2025 sellout success Phar Lap: The Electro-Swing Musical, introducing the immersive rock-cabaret musical experience Mack The Knife, and sharing eight other exciting productions at Hayes Theatre Co’s home in Potts Point.

The 2027 program will open with Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door on 13 January, which pays homage to Aussie showbiz legend and singer-songwriter, Peter Allen, with arrangements from Allen’s own songbook like I Still Call Australia Home.

February will conclude the showing of Peter Allen and introduce cult-classic musical farce Lucky Stiff, followed by an “unholy elegy in heels”,  House of Rot in April and a haunting 1888 shipwreck epic, Swept Away, in May, which Falconer says “will be unmissable”.

Though an announcement of February 2027’s offerings would be incomplete without mentioning Theys at the Hayes, returning to the theatre for its 4th year. This special, one-off performance will arrive just in time for Sydney Mardi Gras, and will feature a brand-new line-up of gender-expansive performers and musicians .

The Mardi Gras season at the Hayes will end in March with a delicious cabaret smorgasbord: Victoria Falconer’s Parlour Night.

Musical theatre fans can grab tickets to see these and a host of other legendary productions including 1776, Next to Normal, Così fan tutte and Dames at Sea at the Hayes Theatre next year.

Winner Of The 2025 Sydney Theatre Award For Best Production Returns To Hayes For Another Season.

Halfway through the season, the Hayes Theatre Co are returning with the 2025 sellout and award-winning musical, Phar Lap: The Electro-Swing Musical. This musical stars Joel Granger as the underdog trainer of racehorse, Phar Lap, who must overcome immersible odds in what Limelight described as a “rag-to-riches story…full of drama”.

The highly anticipated show is back for another national tour of Australia from 8 July to 8 August starting at Carriageworks, with tickets on sale now.

September will star the sci-fi sensation Be More Chill at the Hayes Theatre, based on the 2004 novel by Ned Vizzini. What will a nerdy highschooler do when he gets a chip containing the cheat code to high school?

“Think Dear Even Hansen meets Heathers, with a dash of Little Shop of Horrors,” says Carroll, “and you’re still only halfway to imaging the bold and unique world of Be More Chill”. Carroll says it’s one of their “most requested shows ever – don’t miss out.”

From 5 October, the Foundry Theatre at the Sydney Lyric will premiere the anticipated production of Mack The Knife. Hayes Theatre Co says that it will be an immersive hybrid experience of musical theatre and rock-cabaret. The audience can expect to walk into a real bar reminiscent of the underground Kings Cross nightclubs from the 1980s and become a part of the show.

Completing the packed 2027 season will be Flowers for Mrs Harris which is making its Australian premiere at the Hayes Theatre. Perfect for fans of The Hello Girls, Amélie and Well-Behaved Women, Falconer says “this deceptively humble little show is a real gem of the genre.”

The productions will be split across two larger Sydney theatres, Carriageworks and Foundry Theatre, as well as Hayes Theatre Co’s home turf in Potts Point where the Hayes Theatre Co all began.
