LOVE LOSS & WHAT I WORE

LOVE LOSS & WHAT I WORE

Written by Nora and Delia Ephron, Love, Loss and What I Wore, is about women and their connection with their clothes. Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Judi Farr, Mirrah Foulkes, Amanda Muggleton and Magda Szubanski are all dressed up in black Carla Zampatti and deliver direct and funny monologues about wedding dresses, handbags and broken relationships, telling us stories of heartbreak and chaotic bags we can identify with. Adapted for an Australian audience, Love, Loss, and What I Wore is splattered with Best and Less and sharpies in Croydon references which brings much of its appeal. Magda Szubanski is by far the stand out, but each of the performances have their own strength. It’s Sex and the City meets The Vagina Monologues, and while the piece is warm and playful, it does lack depth. The different stories only have enough time to skim the surface of bra shopping, cancer, love, and loss, before the five actresses quickly move on to something else and at times it feels a bit schizophrenic and superficial.
