Aaron Thomas entered this world in Tasmania but now lives in Madrid. In between he has resided in Sydney, Kiev and Los Angeles. He is without doubt a man on the move. Follow the Elephants is a debut that talks to a world Aaron knows about; strangers in a strange city, far from home (if indeed one can remeber where home is or was) and relationships new and old, distance – figurative and literal. There is a touch of Thom Yorke in Thomas’ foggy voice – both in sound and styling – while his music draws from the well of acoustic pop, with tinges of roots that you can feel but barely identify. Having nailed this down in the first haf of the album it would be nice to see Thomas spread his wings, particularly in terms of his vocal approach, Aw C’mon stands out towards the end as a simple beat, piano and guitar tune forces him to stretch his voice to great effect.
