‘Colin Hay’: A man still hard at work

Erstwhile frontman of iconic Australian band, Men At Work, Colin Hay has proven, yet again, what a commensurate musician and entertainer he is. His show at The Enmore Theatre on July 5 was a sell-out and the crowd was loud and enthusiastic.
Hay’s wife, band-mate, and successful artist in her own right, Cecilia Noël, helped warm up the room before the main event. Noël is a firecracker and definitely set the tone for the evening, inviting the audience to sing along with her cheeky cover of AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long”.

Noël performed with the Colin Hay Band which features an incredible line-up of international musicians: SanMiguel Perez (guitar/tres/vocals), Yosmel Montejo (bass/vocals) and Jimmy Branly (drums), all from Cuba; and phenomenal saxophonist, Scheila Gonzalez (also keyboard/flute/vocals) from Guatemala. Noël herself hails from Peru.
After a brief interval, Hay joined the supergroup, met by thundering applause from a crowd that already seemed to know what magic was in store. Hay met his fans with an easy grace and warm rapport.

The set included a mix of covers, solo originals and some of Men At Work’s most popular hits. Hay is an extraordinary guitarist and has a unique, husky voice that can deliver a dynamic range of emotions with authenticity.
Between each song, Hay proved himself a master storyteller too, regaling the crowd with humorous anecdotes.
Hay has completed the Australian sector and will be touring the US for the rest of the year, but he returns Down Under frequently. Don’t miss his next trip.
