AROUND THE BLOCK

AROUND THE BLOCK

Around the Block is a contemporary, urban tale, centred on Liam (Hunter Page-Lochard), a young Aboriginal boy who is forced to make a choice between his family’s life of crime and his passion for theatre.

Liam develops a relationship with new and edgy American drama teacher Dino (Christina Ricci), who encourages her students to see the parallels between hip-hop and Hamlet. Both Dino and Liam learn about the importance of personal freedom, destiny and breaking free of cultural cycles.

Despite its fair share of clichés, the film’s themes are well woven and result in a hopeful, uplifting story. With murder, passion, revenge and intrigue, audiences won’t be bored, even with the presence of Shakespeare. (LK)
