TOO OLD FOR TV
What better way to tap into Sydney’s vibrant past than a trip down memory lane with acclaimed comedian and grand dame of the gay community, Brent Thorpe?
This re-staging of the award-winning 2012 hit finds the Marrickville native pondering his half-century milestone, as well as the gradual facelift our glorious city has undergone. Changes which Thorpe himself is confident would give most Gen-Y dwellers a shock to their social-media-loving systems.
“There is … history that a lot of young people don’t know. At one stage in Sydney there must have been at least 50 gay bars. It was a thriving scene that just isn’t there now.”
A history lesson with hilarity, Too Old For TV is set to be one of the major highlights of the 35th Annual Sydney Mardi Gras Festival.
“It really is like a celebration of how Sydney used to be, how we used to run amok in the old days!” exclaims Thorpe.
“But I mostly want people to walk out with a smile on their face.”
