THIRTY THREE

THIRTY THREE

Are you after fresh, young urban theatre? Thirty Three, the latest play by emerging theatre company Cathode Ray Tube, could be the answer.  It tells the story of birthday girl Saskia who is hosting a dinner party to celebrate turning 33. When her estranged brother turns up it becomes clear that this party is not going to be the low-key event she expected. Throw into the mix a dysfunctional couple on the brink of divorce, a gate crashing narcissistic cokehead and a hyperactive lesbian flower child and you’ve either got the recipe for disaster, or a night of debauchery, drinking, game-playing and shocking revelations. “It’s wild, human and beautiful,” co-writer and actor, Michael Booth, tells me. “Audiences are going to be blown away. It’s moving and immediate and everyone can relate to it. The conflict is accessible and our space is small so it’s going to be very in your face, but it’s got a lot of heart.”
