THEATRE: THE PIGEONS
The Pigeons is the theatrical equivalent of watching a Rubik’s cube be solved. The dialogue is deft, flicking back and forth between characters and scenes in segments, revealing the plot piece by piece. Just like the aforementioned Hungarian brain puzzle, you know approximately where you’re headed the entire time, but just how you’ll get there is less straightforward. The staging is simple, but this complements the relatively complex plot. Locations change according context and the actors never leave the stage, freezing halfway through dialogue or facing the wall as the scenes chop and change. Barely stopping for breath (nor interval), The Pigeons is a dark, hilarious and superbly refreshing piece of theatre, well-played.
