THEATRE: PLAYTIME

THEATRE: PLAYTIME

There seems to be a trend in speedy, bite-sized serves of culture these days. Is it our increasingly blink-and-you’ll-miss-it attention span? Or is it because there’s so just much talent you want to stick your spoon into? Playtime dubs itself as, ‘tapas theatre’, with a selection of short plays (usually between 10-15 minutes long), written by local talent, directed by local talent, and acted by local talent. Sounds like a pretty small carbon footprint on that one. Organiser Dan Chin says of the debut event, “Playtime is a project I have wanted to get off the ground for around two years, so we were pretty excited when it finally all came together … and seeing over a hundred people coming out and supporting independent theatre was great to see.” The next round takes place on April 21, with anything from wacky psychics to tea addicts on the table. As for the swing towards small, we wonder what’s next. Mini museums? Two second opera arias? Nail-sized newspapers?

Apr 21, 7.30-10pm, World Bar Club Room, 24 Bayswater Rd, $10
