THE STORY OF MARY MACLANE BY HERSELF

THE STORY OF MARY MACLANE BY HERSELF

Live music meets some sensational writing in this theatre production. More than a hundred years ago, a 19-year-old girl set the world aflame with her scandalous memoirs: that girl was Mary MacLane.

Controversially feminist, brutally honest and intimately personal, the book introduced a new style of autobiography and foresaw our obsession with social media. Fresh from a world premiere season in Melbourne, this much-anticipated work comes to the Stables Theatre with some great reviews under its belt. Local writer and performer Bojana Novakovic plays the lead, after her role in Aussie film Burning Man last year. You Am I’s Tim Rogers composed the soundtrack and performs live with a band for each performance. And direction is by Tanya Goldberg, whose previous credits include the STC’s War of the Roses, Terminus and The Crucible. “Mary MacLane chose to offer her very personal inner workings to the public, and the public couldn’t get enough. This story and its context couldn’t be more relevant than right now,” she says. (NL)
