THE HOMECOMING

THE HOMECOMING

Nobel Laureate and ladies’ lout Harold Pinter is arguably one of Britain’s finest playwrights (admittedly, it’s a tough bracket to beat out entirely.) His career includes The Birthday Party (1957), Betrayal (1978) and The Trial (1993) as well as a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) – all in all, pretty impressive. The Homecoming, scripted in 1964, won the Tony Award for its Broadway incarnation in 1967 and hinges on the eternally elegiac myth of coming home, first set in stone by that prodigal son, Homer. After living in the US for a number of years Teddy brings his wife Ruth home to North London, and complexity ensures. This local production is directed by Hendrik Elstein and features a host of interesting local talent. (AB)
