THE HISTORY BOYS

THE HISTORY BOYS

Sometimes you just know that the familiar will trump the unknown. You know that choosing a rerun of The Breakfast Club will give you the kind of satisfaction that a new doco on SBS simply doesn’t guarantee. You know that your well-thumbed favourite will beat the trendy new bestseller. And you know, you simply know, that seeing a theatrical classic like The History Boys will have you laughing, thinking and crying in all the right places.

Alan Bennett’s Tony Award-winning play, a coming-of-age story that follows the lives of a group of boys at a grammar school, has been delighting audiences for nearly a decade on both Broadway and West End stages. And now it is coming to Sydney for a reinvention by young director Jesse Peach.

Being staged at the Sydney Opera House Playhouse theatre in an, “intimate space that will give the work the kind of intimate experience it’s suited to” the Kiwi director describes the play as “funny, touching and delicate.”

Peach, who says he was drawn to the play’s, “simplicity and complexity” is thrilled to be working with, “a wonderful mix of people.” Acting veterans John Wood, Paul Goddard and Heather Mitchell are joined by a cast of, “exciting and young actors.”
