THE GREENING OF GRACE

THE GREENING OF GRACE

Ever since a hailstorm damaged its original premise, the Darlinghurst Theatre has been based in Potts Point. As of June 2013 the theatre will be moving back into its rightful suburb of Darlinghurst. The City of Sydney is renovating a 132-year-old heritage listed site to create a 200-seat theatre called the Eternity Playhouse.

In the interim, Theatre 19 is moving in and showcasing five new works by independent companies.

First off the rank is The Greening of Grace. A tender and inspiring story of an elderly widower who proves you are never too old to make a difference. This 90-minute show written by William Zappa is brimming with various themes and political statements. There are times when it drags but for every lull there is also a moment of gold. This four hander has solid performances, the standout being the unique, special dynamic between Grace (Maggie Blinco) and her grandson Tim (Nigel Turner-Carroll).

Until Dec 9, Theatre 19 (formerly known as Darlinghurst Theatre), 19 Greenknowe Ave, Potts Point, $28-38, 8356 9987 darlinghursttheatre.com.au
