THE GREEN LANTERN

As the battle between Marvel and DC Comics continues to rage, cinemagoers have been presented with the latest contender – The Green Lantern. What you’ve got is your typical tale of good versus evil, with cocky pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) entering the elite ‘Green Lantern Corps’ after being given a ring that grants him the power to create anything his mind can conjure. But with an average script and some unconvincing special effects things never truly get the chance to take off. The Green Lantern is the kind of superhero flick that seems perfectly built for young teenage boys, but lacks the substance everyone else desires. It’s a fun ride, but ultimately misses the opportunity to become something more. (AG) **1/2
