THE GAB

THE GAB

Claudia Karvan, Rhys Muldoon and Barry Otto are some of the actors who will be opening up their diaries and divulging in private stories as part of The Gab – Breaking Legs: Stories from behind the curtain. I spoke with organiser, Elan Zavelsky who has described the night as a story, a spotlight and a cause. “I’m a huge fan of the Moth podcast in New York which gets individuals to tell their personal stories live without notes or scripts,” he explains. “I thought it would be great to get Aussie actors live onstage doing the same.” The proceeds from the night goes towards the Actors Benevolent Fund, a charity which has been running for 60 years and which supports actors who are unfit to work due to illness, disability, or old age. “For a small fund we require a great deal of community support.” The evening will have eight actors telling their stories of about eight-12 minutes long and currently all stories are top secret without even the organisers being let in on the surprise.
