The Chatswood Concourse has been home to performing arts and culture for over 100 years. The venue remains the North Shore’s leading entertainment space for various live arts, community events and civic ceremonies.

The Concourse is an initiative of Willoughby City Council and was developed to meet the needs of the local community. The venue’s facilities include a main theatre and concert hall, a civic pavilion, a rehearsal centre and a community art space.

Before the venue became council property in 2011, the Concourse was formerly known as Civic Place. In 1972, the Willoughby Town Hall and administration building was demolished and replaced with Civic Place, a venue that seated a total 1200 patrons.

Civic Place was later redesigned and equipped with technical facilities to house the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. The space showcased various orchestral performances and art exhibitions.

Part of the venue was then sectioned off and re-purposed into a multi-function space, hosting functions and receptions. New facilities were also added for drama and musical theatre performances.

By the mid 1990s, the Willoughby City Council implemented a plan for construction of Civic Place. The plan would ensure that the creative space became a centrepiece for the local community, offering a broad range of cultural opportunities and services.

The new Concourse architectural design was completed in 2007 and the building was officially opened in September of 2011. The venue continues a century old tradition of cultural celebrations and performing arts, with a unique mix of live theatre, music, dance and exhibitions.
