The Blind Giant is Dancing

The Blind Giant is Dancing

The Blind Giant is Dancing was originally performed back in 1983; audiences were stunned at the blunt truths it portrayed about the Australian political landscape during that time. Stephen Sewell’s political thriller focuses on a central character, Allan Fitzgerald, an idealist who gets wrapped up in a struggle. It focuses on his insatiable appetite for power. Now in 2016, it’s getting a reboot by artistic director Eamon Flack.

Actress Emma Jackson plays three characters in this play, a first for her career. She plays Janice, Jane and Robin. All three are very different to each other and a great challenge for her.

Janice is a strong-willed and smart woman who could have had a successful career in law, but focused her energy on her marriage. Jane is a leftie fighting the good fight, and Robin is an opinionated leftie who works for the steel workers union.

Jackson has nothing but fond things to say about the 11 cast members she is currently rehearsing with.

“The company is amazing,” she said. “We’ve got the most incredible group of people working in the play. The rehearsal room is inspiring and passionate. [The play is] a real ensemble piece so it takes a strong company of artists to put this on.”

For anyone who is a fan of political thrillers, political driven plays or even just intelligent dialogue, Jackson ensures this is a fascinating play you cannot miss. (AMal)
