Acclaimed performers and artists, Taylor Mac and Matt Ray, will premiere their new musical spectacular Bark Of Millions at the Sydney Opera House this October.

The rock opera turned reimagined pride parade, celebrates the historical triumphs and challenges of LGBT communities. The four-hour spectacle features 55 songs representing each year since the historic Stonewall uprising, and melds drag artistry, live music and stellar performances.

A MacArthur Fellow and Ibsen Award winner, Mac brings his vision and artistry back to Australia following his critically acclaimed show, 24-Decade History of Popular Music, back in 2017. Mac returns to the stage to celebrate and ignite queer action.

Noting their religious upbringing, Mac says that “the feelings and impulses from years of indoctrination still linger” and wanted to provide a show that celebrates LGBT progress.

“So [Ray] and I have gathered some of our favourite queer performers and allies; one song after another after another after another, we sing, until we begin to inch our way free of the years of harm,” Mac expalins.

“All in frivolity and with our hearts on our drag encrusted sleeves. Essentially we have a blast sharing queerness with the world.”

Mac is also joined alongside friends and longtime collaborators – musician and theatre maker Ray, and costume designer Machine Dazzle.

Co-directed by Niegel Smith and Faye Driscoll, the show also features a global ensemble of 22 queer artists, including Australian singer and cabaret artist Mama Alto.

The world premiere of Bark Of Millions is a part of the Opera House’s 50th anniversary celebrations, this October.

Playing for 3 nights only, do not shy away from what is expected to be an incredible celebration.
