Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Appoints Jeremy Moineau As New Director

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras have officially appointed Jeremy Moineau as their new director, following an open EOI recruitment process.

Jeremy, a prominent human rights advocate, policy advisor, and performer, currently leads UTS’s LGBTQIA+ Equity and Inclusion at the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion (CSJI). She also provides strategic governance to the Inner City Legal Centre (ICLC), NSW’s dedicated non-profit LGBTQIA+ community legal service.

“Jeremy brings to the Board a strong combination of advocacy, governance, creativity and community connection,” wrote Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in an official statement, “and we look forward to the experience and perspective she will contribute to the Board. 

A Word From Jeremy Moineau

Speaking to the Star Observer, Jeremy reflected on the privilege and honour it is to be trusted to steward Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

“I’m humbled by the opportunity to contribute to SGLMG,” Jeremy said, “which acts as a living and growing piece of our collective LGBTQIA+ history. We owe our community’s survival to our ability to show up for each other and stand as a united front against those who seek to oppose our joy, love, or even our existence.”

“Through this appointment, I hope I’m able to work towards bringing us together and preserving the essential vehicle for good that is SGLMG. My role is to represent you, to listen, and to ensure we all get the opportunity to feel heard and represented. 
I’m here to show up for the LGBTQIA+ community. I hope you’ll all be here for me in what will surely be a demanding SGLMG season ahead. Thank you for this honour.”

More On Jeremy

Jeremy has a long history of supporting grassroots initiatives that defend marginalised communities. This includes leading human rights advocacy initiatives in the United States, including the Trans March on DC, and supporting Black Lives Matter rallies in New York City.

Jeremy’s activism has also found a home in Australia, the human rights expert successfully advocating for greater equity and inclusion in NSW, including through the ICLC’s Blueprint for Equality justice equity report, and her co-authorship of the NSW Parliament LGBTQIA+ Safe Workplaces Strategy 2025–2030.

Jeremy’s appointment will continue until the 2027 Annual General Meeting.
