Alleged Killer Of Bondi Grandmother Claims Ozempic Altered His Mind

A 90-year-old woman was found with 90 stab wounds at Bondi Beach over the weekend. The woman, discovered at 5:15pm on Saturday, was treated by paramedics, but died at the scene.

Her grandson, 47-year-old Sergei Mitnik, was charged with her murder. Mitnik’s lawyer, Javid Faiz, told the Local Court on Sunday that the medication Ozempic had altered his client’s mental state and asked that Mitnik undergo a psychiatric assessment.

While police did not oppose the assessment, Mitnik was both refused bail and the opportunity to be transferred to a psychiatric facility. He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on September 24. 

Just One Of Four Domestic Violence Murders In NSW Over Weekend

The alleged murder was one of four domestic violence-related deaths that took place in NSW over the weekend. 

Earlier that Saturday, a 31-year-old man allegedly stabbed his partner, a 23-year-old woman, at a home in Wagga Wagga. 

That evening, approximately four hours after the Bondi Beach murder, NSW police were called to Mole River, where the body of a 70-year-old woman was found decapitated. The woman’s son, Phillip John Denton, stands accused.

Then on Sunday, a child was found dead in a car parked in the Blue Mountains suburb of Valley Heights. The child was accompanied by two younger siblings and the trio’s mother, all with serious stab wounds. The 42-year-old mother is being treated as a suspect.

“I can’t remember a weekend like this in my career,” said NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Peter McKenna. “It is really overwhelming.” 

Speaking to the press on Monday, McKenna was quick to vindicate NSW police, saying that none of the parties involved were on record for domestic violence.

“There were no AVOs in place,” McKenna said. “They weren’t on our radar at all. It is a whole-of-societal issue, domestic violence. It is an issue that everyone needs to speak about.

“Government needs to make sure that they’re throwing every resource at. And certainly, in the New South Wales Police Force, it is our number one priority.” 

Now, many in the community are calling on the NSW Government and local authorities to do better.
