SWEET BIRD ANDSOFORTH

SWEET BIRD ANDSOFORTH

Described as surprisingly humorous; irreverent; and occasionally anarchic, Sweet Bird and Soforth was written by 22-year-old award-winning German playwright, Laura Naumann, and is about a group of friends who are caught between adolescence and adulthood. I heard director Laura Scrivano speak at a pre-show party a few weeks ago. “Laura’s play really stood out to me. Here’s a writer who from a young age managed to do what many writers can only aim to do. The other thing that captured my attention was her use of language. The play a very classical feel, reinterpreted with a contemporary voice.” The story follows Amanda who is about to go away and so her friends throw her a farewell party.  It’s never been produced so audiences at Studio 1 will be watching a world premiere. “I’m really excited to do the play,” Scrivano added. “It has a universal appeal, because we all know what it’s like to turn 18. It’s a beautiful play full of drama, comedy, and exciting and passionate moments. It’s just so full of life.”
