STICKS & STONES

STICKS & STONES

A man awakens to find himself in a waiting room with no doors, and no memory of how he arrived there. His ocker cellmate clearly knows something, but won’t tell. Finally he discovers the two men are dead, and must probe their past lives to unravel an answer before moving on.

Written and starring Jay Duncan, this is a very watchable reflection on the decisions we make and the lives we touch. Duncan is convincing as an aspiring gay writer, who wrestles with his sexual past and the love he left behind. Paul Hooper plays a rough homophobe who struggles with the ‘invasion’ of his country by immigrants. Slowly the two discover that they have more in common than they might think.

Some patchy performances and predictable plot turns repeat well-worn lessons around the power of acceptance. However this very entertaining drama is a mostly tense and effective musing on the things we can only learn when it is all too late.
