SOUTH PACIFIC

SOUTH PACIFIC

The Lincoln Centre Theatre’s much awaited production of Roger and Hammerstein’s South Pacific is superlative. The set is both practical and functional – its simplicity does not distract from the classic songs or strong acting. Teddy Tahu Rhodes’ French accent was forced and heavy, making the character of Emile De Becque at times difficult to understand, though his vocal strength was incredible. Lisa McCune quickly overcame some opening night jitters and settled comfortably into the role of Ensign Nellie Forbush. However it was Kate Cebrano’s Bloody Mary and Eddie Perfect’s Luther Billis who stole the show. The characters were outrageous and well portrayed, commanding attention whenever on stage. This is a credit to Cebrano and Perfect’s acting abilities as well as their strong vocal performances.
