RUSSIAN NATIONAL BALLET

RUSSIAN NATIONAL BALLET

Frequently referred to as being ‘a cut above its rivals’ the Russian National Ballet Theatre is touring Australia with productions of two of the world’s favourite classics, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. Both set to a beautiful Tchaikovsky score, Swan Lake (the wonderfully dark story of good against evil) and Sleeping Beauty (a fairytale staged with a huge cast) are sure to delight audiences. The company, founded in the late 1980s during a period of great upheaval in the former Soviet Union, has focused on combining the timelessness of Russian classical ballet with the reinvigorated energy of modern styles from around the world, discovering and promoting new directions and opportunities in dance, and giving the genre a new lease on life.
