Playing Rock Hudson

Playing Rock Hudson

By Erika Vass

Iconic, symbolic and historic, the production Playing Rock Hudson will leave you questioning for the truth between love and lies.

Rock Hudson was a popular American actor in the fifties and sixties and was notably recognised as the first homosexual actor and passed away from AIDS.

“This production is set between the years of 1983 to 1989, the last and final years of Hudson and the troubles after his death,” says writer/co-director Cameron Lukey. “He was the biggest star of his time, but over the years he has been forgotten and I don’t think people remember his significance of his sexuality.”

Playing Rock Hudson will focus on two prominent personalities, playing Hudson will be Paul Dowson and the infamous lover Marc Christian by Mark Taylor.

“Paul Dowson will be challenging the audience to set their own idea of who Hudson and Christian really were,” Lukey says., “I’ve been wanting to tell and write about Hudson for quite some time. It has been a gradual process and I’m confident in the story.”

Rock Hudson, as an actor, changed people’s perceptions of gay men. This production will shine a light on the truth rather than the person’s lie. (EV)
