Be prepared to experience this Opera Queensland production of Gluck’s heartbreaking opera,
Orpheus and Eurydice, as one never seen before.

This new interpretation of the famous journey into the underworld and back again busts genres and
combines the singers with the acrobatic artists from the Brisbane-based Circa Contemporary
Circus, which, since its foundation in 2004, has become one of our greatest artistic exports.

Orpheus and Eurydice will see the integration of the projected surtitles into the action on stage as
the performers and singers play out the narrative of Orpheus searching the underworld for his
great love, Eurydice.

In what promises to be one of the great visual treats of the Sydney Festival, this production will
also feature some of the best voices on the Australian operatic stage.

In the role of Orpheus, which has extraordinary vocal demands, is the French counter-tenor
Christopher Dumaux, who is famous for his ability to immerse himself in a role.

Dumaux will be performing opposite Australian soprano and multi-award winner Cathy-Di Zhang,
who will be making her role debut singing both Eurydice and Amor.

Conducting will be the Brisbane-born and rising international star Dane Lam, who works with
numerous Australian and overseas orchestras and artists.
