Enmore and Chippendale have been added to this year’s Great Southern Nights lineup, giving Sydney-siders a chance to explore local hidden gems and experience to some excellent live music.

The annual festival, running from May 1 – 17, presents more than 300 artists in some of the best music venues across the state, with names like Ball Park Music, Baker Boy, Kasey Chambers, and Missy Higgins on the lineup.

The walkable gig trails mean patrons can wander from venue to venue, interact with street performers, buskers and enjoy pop-up performers, providing an immersive festival-like experience. Small businesses will also offer interactive workshops, art exhibitions and creative opportunities, with plenty of food trucks if you want a quick bite along the way.

More than 200 venues across Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Dubbo, Tamworth, Wagga Wagga, Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, South Coast and Orange are taking part, with performances ranging from intimate gigs on rooftop bars, to shows played to hundreds.

“By activating more gig trails in live music pockets, we’re creating spaces where emerging artists share the stage with established acts and whole neighbourhoods come alive,” said CEO of ARIA, Annabelle Herd.

“Grab some friends and wander the streets following the sound of music spilling out of venues, stumbling across solo sets under streetlights and sharing the joy of live music with the artists bringing these precincts to life.”

The little laneways, hidden nooks and beloved bars of Chippendale will come to life on Saturday 9 May, with venues like Gin Lane, Sneaky Possum, and The Lansdowne open from 1pm to late.

It’s Enmore’s turn the next weekend, transforming the Inner West’s creative centre into a haven for music fans. Deadwax, Pleasure Club, Rising Sun Workshop, The Duke of Enmore, and more will be presenting unique activations for revellers from 2pm – 2am on Saturday 16 May.

“Great Southern Nights is part of the NSW Government’s push to support live music across the state, not only for the artists and fans but also the venues, technicians and businesses who rely on the creative and nighttime economy,” said Minister for the Arts, Music and the Nighttime Economy, John Graham.

“[It’s] about firing up the live music scene in NSW – getting bands back on stage, filling venues and bringing communities together for a great night out through the shared experience of live music.”
