MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL

MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL

Parodying classic tunes from the 60s, 70s and 80s, Menopause the Musical promises to provide a unique yet personal perspective of ‘The Change.’ Instead of being a lament about its negative aspects, this concert celebrates menopause and all its symptoms and effects.

“The stories ring so true …” says cast member, Wendy Grose. “It’s natural part of our life, so we may as well embrace it and enjoy the journey.”

Grose says this is shown through four very different women – Power Woman, Earth Mother, Soap Star and Dubbo Housewife – who cover the gamut of female identity. They meet by chance and share their stories with the audience.

When asked about her character – Dubbo Housewife – and how she fits into the broader story, Grose explains that as a wife and mother, her life has revolved around her family’s needs rather than her own.  But now, she is learning about herself through the company and experiences of the other women.

These deeper themes aside, Menopause the Musical aims to deliver joy and laughter through some great songs and good jokes. They also want to reassure some of us that we’re not the only ones suffering weight gain and hot flushes.

“The main challenge is not to laugh at your colleagues’ funny lines,” says Grose. “My favourite moments are when I get to sing about my lamentable thighs and when we all sing a beautiful anthem to our mums.”
