LIFE AS WE KNOW IT

LIFE AS WE KNOW IT

In a new work by Urban Theatre Projects (UTP) audiences are given a poignant reminder that growing old doesn’t mean disappearing.

The cast consists of seven residents from Minto aged between 64-78 under the tutelage of UTP’s Artistic Director,

Rosie Dennis. It tells the story of a group of friends who are helping their mate plan his funeral. What follows is an afternoon of sharing stories of love and dreams.

“We make it very conversational,” says Dennis. “The overarching … idea [is] that we are all going to die one day … I’m fond of humour. We laugh with them because of their perspective of life.”

The show is set in a garden full of herbs and vegetables, but the journey for Dennis hasn’t been all roses and sunshine.

“It’s not easy. You have to be extremely patient. But I love that. It’s been a really interesting and creative challenge. It’s not easy working with older people that aren’t trained.”

“Even though you are older, you still dream,” she continues. “You are still as valid and valuable and make huge contributions to the way we live even though you are less visible.”
