LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES

LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES

Les Liaisons Dangereuses, with Hugo Weaving and Pamela Rabe, is Sydney Theatre Company’s upcoming production of the classic play about love, lust and deception.

It’s a tale of the wealthy and the bored, and the trouble that results from turns out to be a nasty combination.

Originally a French novel, the book was later written for the stage.

“ [Director] Sam Strong has done an amazing job of adapting a play that was written in the 80s and set in 1780 into the present day and keeping it pretty timeless and universal in its feel,” says Les Liaisons Dangereuses actress Geraldine Hakewill.

“Everything about the relationships is so identifiable and I think that’s why people keep putting it on.”

The costumes, set and production elements have been deliberately stripped back to create a timeless mood.

“The way that people treat each other hasn’t changed over time. We still fall in love, we still get jealous, we still hurt each other; we still lie and cheat and deceive.”

“It’s really about love and how we value love and value our relationships, the difference between pleasure and love,” says Hakewill.
