I’M YOUR MAN

I’M YOUR MAN

The final part of a trilogy exploring acts of courage, I’m Your Man follows 18-months of featherweight fighter Billy Dib’s pursuit of a world title. Portrayed with respect and skill by Michael Mohammed
Ahmad, Billy’s story is supported by a cast of characters, whose own hopes, dreams and philosophies about boxing will give audiences a newfound understanding of this often misjudged sport.

Roslyn Oades, creator and director of I’m Your Man, uses the term, ‘eavesdrop’ to describe this production, a momentary experience of Australian boxing subculture through verbatim quoting and documented physical exercise. It works – the white-washed Downstairs Belvoir space has the feel of a boxing gym, and the intricate rituals and training practices of boxers are as fascinating and real as the
recorded interviews playing through the performers’ headphones.

Until Feb 5, Belvoir St Theatre Downstairs, 25 Belvoir St, Surry Hills, $32-42, 9699 3444, belvoir.com.au
