I LEFT MY SHOES ON WARM CONCRETE & STOOD IN THE RAIN

“Immersive and whimsical,” is how dancer/creator Gabrielle Nankivell describes her solo performance I left my shoes on warm concrete and stood in the rain. “The theme and content of the performance is based around the concept of struggle and this work is quite interactive with the audience. It relies in developing a relationship with them, so each night is different.” This is Nankivell’s first solo performance and she describes the challenges of working for hours by herself. “The mind can play tricks on you and it’s quite challenging to stay motivated. However, performances you create on your own mean so much. This isn’t particularly autobiographical but it’s a highly personal experience which gives me the opportunity to grow and expand which is also quite satisfying.” Audiences can expect an experience where this visual poem feels just as much about them as her. “There is surround sound in an intimate space,” she explains. “It’s highly physical with a dynamic soundtrack that’s quite exhilarating. It gives people the opportunity for reflection and to use their imagination.”
