Although my grandmother is a card-carrying member of the Jane Austen Society, owns every BBC rendition known to man on DVD and VHS, and pens her shopping on a Pemberely pad, I don’t think I will be telling her about this latest homage to England’s original virginal money-spinner (before Susan Boyle, that is). In it, award-winning author Steven Dawson imagines if Jane turned to a 21st century pornographic playwright for some inspiration … it may sound smutty but when it did the Edinburgh circuit it got called, “Surprisingly sweet.” Maybe I should inform my matriarch after all.
