HOT DAMN FESTIVAL

HOT DAMN FESTIVAL

Asked just how hot the Hot Damn Festival is going to be this July at the Bondi Pavilion, Tamara Rock Surfers’ Artistic Director Leland Kean unsurprisingly sasses: “Daaaaaaammn hot!” It’s not quite an electric blanket but with the right amount of mulled wine added, the line-up of impro, performance, song and dance is probably more likely to get your blood popping (with a smaller carbon footprint, no less). On the music front, July 14th brings Bondi jazz outfit the Greasy Chicken Orchestra to the stage, along with special guest vocalist Christa Hughes, while July 27th brings together The Blind Mice, a collective of Eastern Beaches singer/songwriters, and the depths of winter get warmed by some African drumming and dancing with Sibo Bangoura and Keyim Ba and blues favourite Declan Kelly on August 11th. Impro reigns on July 15 and 22,  and August 3, plus a choose-your-own-adventure-style audience experience called The Wishing Tree on July 29. New theatre gets a look in on July 24, as a taste-test of the Griffin New Writing program is showcased, all inspired by classic texts The Visit, Antigone and The Cherry Orchard. That’s not even the half of it – visit the website for more information. Hot damn, indeed. (AB)
