HAVANA RAKATAN
Spicy, sexy ramba…
Steamy, salacious salsa…
Straight from the streets of one of the world’s hottest dance spots, Havana Rakata brings Cuba’s energetic, colourful dance scene to Sydney.
Cuban choreographer Nilda Guerra takes the passion of her local culture to the Opera House, to the sounds of a live seven-piece band, Turquino.
After four seasons in London, the dance troupe have embarked on an around the world tour. And this is a production of mega-scale featuring colourful costumes, African-beats and the fourteen fiery dancers.
The group have been performing together for many years and in 2006 were discovered at the Edinburgh Festival where they received the Five Stars Awards. Many of the dancers are graduates of Cuba’s Escuela Nacional de Arte de la Habana, an academy which trains them in all aspects of Cuban dance. The band is known for their eclectic beats and are masters of Cuba’s traditional Afro-Caribbean music.
With so much exhilaration and movement in the room, the only shame will not being able to take part.
