Fest by Inner West: Enmore Road the spot to be next Sunday
The Inner West council has further consolidated the area’s title as the centre for arts and entertainment in Sydney, by partnering with SXSW’s Sydney chapter to organize a free-entry, multi-venue music festival called Fest by Inner West.
Performers will take to the stage in venues in the Enmore Road precinct such as the Enmore Theatre, Vic on the Park, the Factory Theatre and others. The festival will provide a multitude of benefits for the Inner West, including the increase of visitation boosting economic development and supporting small businesses, as well as making a case for the Inner West to be a go-to destination for tourists travelling to Sydney. Inner West Councilor Chloe Smith said: “The Inner West is the undisputed capital of live music, culture and arts in NSW, and now we’re showing the world what we have to offer.”
Here are just some of the artists performing at the Enmore Theatre as part of the festival!
Middle Kids
The headline act of Fest by Inner West, this trio hailing from Sydney is touring the country off the back of their most recent album earlier this year Faith Crisis Pt.1. They are led by singer and guitarist Hannah Joy, alongside bassist Tim Fitz and drummer Harry Day. Their sound is defined by smooth yet hard hitting indie pop with great tracks such as Edge of Town and the newly released Highlands.
The Buoys
The Buoys is a local all-female alt-rock band rapidly growing in the Australian music scenes, having made countless festival appearances, headlined Triple J Unearthed and supported big name acts such as Arctic Monkeys. This performance is in celebration of their debut album Lustre, which includes tracks such as Check Mate, Ahead of Myself and Guard My Heart, but their most recent release to look out for is their cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s Vampire for Triple J’s Like a Version. They can be best characterized for their rough alternative sound, similar to The Strokes and Paramore.
O.
One of the select international acts taking part, O. is an experimental, instrumental duo from London. Their musical genius is defined by the complex sounds they compose with only a drum kit and a baritone sax, as well as employing jazz influences that creates a musical mixture of metal, funk and noise. Their notable track is Slice from the 2023 EP of the same name, however their trip to Australia is to promote the release of their first album WeridOs.
Sycco
Brisbane native Sycco is yet another artist taking the stage on Sunday off the back of an album release, with her sophomore record Zorb. The singer, songwriter and producer have a strong creative range, demonstrating multiple forms of alternative music such as indie-pop and rock, dub, and dance, which has seen her collaborate with the likes of Flume and Alice Ivy. She was nominated for Triple J’s Unearthed artist of the year and has performed a cover of PNAU’s Embrace on ‘Like a Version’.
While entry to the festival stages is free, there is an entry cap so make sure you get your RSVP in as soon as possible.
