FALLOUT

Four teenagers named Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta are trapped in a room where they have to cure themselves of a ‘sickness.’ Whenever they feel something, they have to suppress it.

This sinister coming-of-age-story is a new production written by Maree Freeman, NIDA graduate and Associate Director for Milk Crate Theatre Company and directed by Kip Williams of Under Milk Wood fame.

Actor Amanda McGregor describes the play as tense, invigorating and poetic. “I’m really enjoying playing Charlie. I usually play roles that are high status but Charlie is much more vulnerable and it’s fun to be free of responsibility.”

McGregor is a bit of an old hand when it comes to performing at the Old Fizroy. The NIDA graduate had a five-day gap between performing in this and Dan Giovannoni’s Wrecking.

“Adrian, the designer, has transformed [the theatre] entirely and it’s an amazing set to be working on,” she explains. “Considering the dynamic of play, the small intimate space is really appropriate for that sense of being claustrophobic and trapped.”

But it’s not all doom and gloom and McGregor promises a night of plot twists and a message of hope.

“The journey you see characters go on will open up the minds of audience to really start thinking about the ideas of empathy,” she continues. “We have those moments where someone is suffering, whether it’s right in front of us or thousands of miles away, and we don’t do anything. Thinking about that is really important.”
